"A 16 year old named Zach in Bartlett, Tennessee recently came out to his parents who reacted by announcing they are sending him to an ex-gay live-in program called Love In Action, the same cult like program Peterson Toscano survived. No offense to his parents, but what twisted souls to put his son through something like this. It honestly must be how Jews must have felt mentally in the concentration camps of WWII (let's not forget that homosexuals were also massacred by the Nazis however).

However well meaning the parents may be, they're likely to end up paying a price for forcing their kid to undergo brainwashing. And that's exactly what they are doing.
The parents' ignorance is pitiable. Their son can't have his psyche rejiggered so that he doesn't breathe, eat, eliminate and sleep. They can't rejigger his psyche to make him heterosexual if he's not.
What they're likely to do is create a thoroughly alienated and resentful enemy out of him. Or, perhaps he'll just be hopelessy neurotic, repressed and conflicted for the rest of his life.
Not that long ago, in historical terms, the mentally ill were administered daily beatings. The idea was to rid the ailing person of demons. We now know that was ignorant, cruel and of no benefit.
Some day, people like those parents will realize what they're doing is no better.
Okay, frist thing i'd heard of a straight camp, was in a movie called "But Im A Cheerleader".
To me, i would have loved to have been send to a gay camp, cause i'd be with loads of hot gay girls, and i myself am a Bisexual.

i am from the netherlands and i am gay, i read this story about this whole straightcamp thing and i find it really shocking that they got those things in america,they should not allowed those camps in the usa.

I think this is the worst thing a parent could ever do to there kid, if there trying to make there kids hate them than there doing a great job at it.
I myself am a lesbian, and i know how it is for kids parents to not approve of being gay...my parents wanted to keep me away from all of the "bad influences" in my life, and thats when i said F@#K you, and i left hom when i was 17.

Knowing that such a thing as a camp to set homosexuals straight makes me absoultely sick. I don't understand why the parents can't just accept the fact that he's gay. I honestly believe that this camp would be useless. If somebody was really gay, they wouldn't change anyways. He'll always be their son no matter what, So they might as well accept the fact that their child is gay and move on with life.

i live in europe and am straight - and i cant believe things like a straight camp exist in a "civilized" country like the US...this is like germany and the concentration camps... but then the way americans are im not surprised...but still very much sad
this is so funny..parents actually send their kids to these places..in that case y dont they just send them to another austrain or french family that do the other criminal offenses too.

These are the consequences of completely worthless, ignorant, and narrow minded parents. I would be ashamed to say I EVER knew anyone that would act in such an overexaggerated manner.
How can it be legal to send a person to a "straight camp" like this? The parents need to be taken in for abuse. I would report this if I knew of it going on in my community.
For those of you not from the United States reading this, please do not let this sour your opinion of the US and its citizens. I myself am American and straight and I am absolutely horrified that these camps even exist. And though the opinion of one does not constitute the majority, please believe me when I say we are NOT all like this. This is cruel and inhumane.

Yes.. you can be born (or learn) homosexual preferences.. but in a sense it also is a choice..

I do feel however that you cannot change a person.. they must be willing to do so.. and those previous beliefs/actions will still be there.. just hidden..
